Vienna (Virginia) Town Council approved Calfee Zoning to lead the team that will update the town's commercial district zoning. Vienna officials noted that the committee evaluated proposals from four teams before selecting the team led by national zoning consultancy Calfee Zoning, urban design specialists YARD & Company, transportation firm Nelson Nygaard and others.

In selecting the team to lead its zoning project, town officials were specifically seeking "a firm with national knowledge of urban design and use planning."

Vienna, Virginia is a town of 15,687 people located in Fairfax County, approximately 15 miles outside of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The town has been experiencing significant growth pressures in recent years. The zone code project is intended to preserve the existing small-town character, while facilitating growth in an intentional way.
